The onboarding experience was really lacking. It felt hurried and the explanations were pretty thin. Even though I was told my direct deposit was all set up on the employee side, it turned out that it wasn’t. When I attempted to log in to sort it out, I ran into some issues. To make things worse, they told me I had to wait another 4 days to cancel and redo the payroll. Dealing with commission payroll was also unnecessarily tricky.

During a chat, I was first told that direct deposit wasn’t set up and that a check was arranged instead. But, this wasn’t explained well during the chat. Later, when I called, I found out that their software doesn’t work the way I thought it did. Maybe this info was shared during sign-up, but it’s easy to miss if you’re mainly focused on getting checks.

When I decided to cancel, the person on the line walked me through voiding the check and told me to hit 'remove' to close the account, assuring me that all was good. Unfortunately, there were a bunch of other steps she didn’t mention. So, I left thinking I was done. To my shock, a hefty amount was taken from my account for taxes. I called again and found out this happened because the account wasn’t fully closed. Now, I have to wait until next week to get that money back, and they can’t give me a specific date.

The software leans too much on manual tasks that should really be handled by seasoned accountants or operational staff. It’s not a good fit for small business owners who are juggling everything on their own. I’ve found Patriot Software to be disjointed and unreliable, giving me wrong info.

I really wouldn’t recommend this service. The lack of clear explanations and the dependence on manual processes could lead to tax problems or financial shortfalls in your bank account. It’d be smarter to invest in software and product engineers to create a more dependable solution. Sadly, Patriot Software just doesn’t cut it.

This software is really well put together. As someone who develops software, I have pretty high standards, and this one goes above and beyond. The only downside I've seen is that the invoice search feature can be a bit slow. Also, it would be awesome to have an option to upload invoices for onboarding. Lastly, I’d really love to see an API added, just to make data backup easier.
